SSAS activation process

The activation process for SSAS involves multiple steps to ensure the system is properly configured and operational. First, the vessel operator must procure an SSAS unit from an authorized supplier. Next, the system needs to be installed and integrated with the vessel’s existing communication infrastructure. Once the hardware is in place, the next step is to register the system with the ship’s flag state and a recognized SSAS service provider. This registration process typically requires submitting the vessel’s details, owner information, and emergency contact numbers. After registration, the system undergoes initial testing to verify that alerts are correctly transmitted to the designated recipients. Successful activation ensures that in the event of a security incident, the SSAS can silently transmit distress alerts without alerting potential perpetrators.
