A VHF Class A DSC radio is a marine radio that supports Digital Selective Calling and is mandatory for GMDSS-compliant ships to transmit and receive emergency alerts.

Yes. All SOLAS vessels are required to carry Class A DSC VHF radios as part of GMDSS carriage requirements.
